This morning I am embarking on what some of us consider a big task – preparing a Turkey Dinner for my family.  Although I am not a great cook, I have pulled off similar meals over the years, but they have come with a level of stress and worry.

You see, what I do love and completely appreciate, is delicious food shared with family and friends.  I think a meal together is one of the best connecting experiences for people.  Meals often provide the foundation of gathering for celebration, sympathy, idea generation, support, friendship, and love.  The other night, I was treated to an amazing dinner out with a wonderful friend.   There was laughter, sharing, celebration of the hard work of others, and some incredible food.  It was easy for me to appreciate the effort and detail that went into each course and you could almost taste how much the chef enjoyed creating these unique dishes.

In reflection of today’s task I wondered if I could enjoy the making of a meal just as much as I enjoy sharing it with others.  So, as I got up this morning what I intended for myself was to enjoy both; preparing and sharing.

Appreciating the more tedious, laborious things we experience in life is sometimes difficult; especially if we are worrying about outcomes.  Focusing on the purpose and the giving behind the effort; however, can turn a boring or stressful task into inspired action.  I am certain the chef who prepared this amazing pork roast I enjoyed the other night felt a great deal of love for his task!

Whatever you are up to today try to simply enjoy the doing and take it one tasty little bite at a time!

With thanks,

~ Today I behold all the abundance that surrounds me~

when food is prepared the way you describe Mel…with love and care…it tastes magical and amazing!
No one comes to see your dishes or the “things” they come to be with you and yours!
enjoy your gathering and coming together of family and friends!

I can relate to this post Melanie! I love hosting and having people in, but the stress of the meal or being inventive with that meal is trying. I definitely don’t mind visits from the Fire Department though…
